I have worked individually with Thavy Mills for over 100 sessions. This individualized training has made a significant difference in my ability to walk with comfort, stand up straight, do squats, and many other functional skills. I tend to have a rounded back -- I am in my late 60s and work at my computer a lot. Because of twice-weekly training with Thavy, in the last year, my back has become less rounded and a recent bone density scan shows the bone in my back is more dense than it was when I began working with her. The best part about working with Thavy is that she watches me exercise and gives me careful feedback. She adjusts her instruction to ensure that each exercise is scaled so that I can succeed at it and get stronger. She is an outstanding coach and teacher.

I began working with Thavy about a year ago when I first attended her Functional Strength Class. I had a background in weightlifting and CrossFit, so I had some prior knowledge of how to move a kettle bell. From day one, Thavy worked with me to improve my technique and form, taking into account the parts of my body that were functionally limited from overuse and prior injury. Her extensive knowledge of exercise physiology combined with her experience and training in kettle bell and strength movements helped me to learn new skills as well as greatly improve the form and function of previously learned skills. Additionally, she truly cares about her students and their individual needs from day one. She provides educational articles and video training outside of class, as well as opportunities to gather socially as a community. Her heart for people and their personal fitness goals is expressed in all she does. Anyone who trains under her will come away with better form, technique, and strength.

Thavy is a great instructor. She explains the moves and gives feedback honestly. If there is any limitation in the movement, she gave corrective exercises. This has really helped me to understand the move and fix any problems. I have gained confidence in strength training all thanks to her. I look forward to improving myself and attend more of her classes to get more strong.

I started training with Thavy two years ago. I knew nothing about kettlebells back then and, thanks to Thavy, I can now workout confidently with them on my own. Thavy really knows her stuff and I love that I learn something new every time I train with her. Her workouts are fun and effective. I’ve seen significant postitive changes in my body and avoided injury. She emphasizes safety and proper technique and has an amazing talent for seeing what needs to be corrected. I am grateful that I get to train with Thavy — her combination of enthusiasum, caring and expertise is a gift!

I've been training with Thavy for about a year now. Before I started with her, I did not have any experience/knowledge in strength training, only from watching DVDs at home. Thavy is very patient and extremely knowledgeable, she explains techniques to me in words that I would actually understand. I used to get sciatic pain on my lower right back/hip area & after just a couple of months of training with Thavy, I no longer have issues. I cannot recommend Thavy enough, she is one of the best out there!

After over one year of physical therapy to recover from a sports injury and a car accident, I was referred to physical strengthening class, which is where I met Thavy. At the beginning I was a bit worried about worsening my condition and whether or not I could keep up with other class members that had been there longer. It was a very pleasant surprise to see a wide variety of students ranging from teenagers to seniors, all working at different paces and to see how Thavy accommodates the exercises to meet everyone’s needs, while keeping them challenged and motivated. In the few months I have been in the class I have noticed a lot of improvement in my day to day activities and my energy levels. I have regained strength and confidence on my sports, and to this date I have not aggravated any of my prior injuries. I believe Thavy’s kettle bells class is a great resource for anyone recovering from injuries and definitely a great work out. Her attention to details and ensuring that everyone is making progress while maintaining a safe environment is key. She also keeps everyone informed via emails on any new developments in the functional strength space via emails, videos, and articles.

I have worked with Thavy Mills for a long time, and it has given my lifelong skills so even if I don’t go to the gym I can still work out correctly and safely at home. Her training has corrected my hyper mobility and made it manageable. Working with Thavy has given me the confidence I need to continue to reach for my goals. I no longer experience back pain thanks to Thavy. She is very skilled in all methods of learning, and can find a way that works for anyone. Not only is she very good at describing and demonstrating a new exercise she also takes the time to explain why each movement is important. She has a very strong work ethic and is extremely reliable. I would recommend her to anyone including my friends and family members.

Prior to training with Thavy, I had no experience with kettle bells or functional movements in general. She has been an invaluable instructor and has helped me achieve goals I didn't even consider as a possibility. She devised strategies to stabilize and strengthen joint issues that I had and motivated me to keep going. Speaking as someone who was underweight beforehand, training with Thavy has put me at a healthy weight. If anyone wants to get started and is worried that they might not be ready, Thavy is the right trainer for you.

Thavy is awesome! She is knowledgeable, encouraging, and great at teaching kettlebell movements in a way that’s easy to understand. Thavy’s passion and excitement for kettlebell workouts is contagious - through a series of private lessons she helped me get back into working out with kettlebells and learn new skills. I would highly(!) recommend her as an instructor to anyone - from beginners to more advanced students.

I have been participating in Thavy’s functional strength classes since May 2017, and also her advanced kettlebell classes since Jul 2017. I recently received the results of my bone density scan, and it showed that my spine has shown improvement since my last scan in 2016. Since I have not taken any meds for my osteoporosis for 1 year, my Dr believes that the exercises I have been doing in these classes plus a healthy diet have helped in the positive results of my bone density scan. Thavy’s knowledge in teaching proper exercise techniques have helped me to improve my overall physical health at my age of 57.

In 2011, I suffered a long illness which resulted in muscle atrophy, stiffness and weakness throughout my body and barely had any hand/grip strength to open a jar. I connected with Thavy in 2013 and began training with her in hopes of restoring some normalcy and regaining my health. Thavy was able to screen and identify my weaknesses, prescribe some corrective exercises and eventually progress me to doing strength training. Each session was well planned, documented and challenging, yet fun. In only 8 months, I was able to regain my mobility and strength, increase the weight used from 9lb to 50 lbs and drop from size 16 to size 10. In addition, I learned so much about the human body and how to train efficiently and safely. At 47, I felt like I did in my 20s!

I met Thavy in 2017 when I started taking the functional strength class and the moment I saw her, I knew what a compassionate person she is. At the time, my posture was not optimal and I had shoulder pain. I also struggled to breathe properly which worsened my asthma symptoms. After taking private training and continuing with her group fitness class, I learned to breathe properly and began to see my posture, mobility, flexibility and strength improve. My lungs are much happier now. Thavy is health conscious not only for herself but she is genuinely concerned about everyone else as well.
